Southport Records presents composer/arranger/saxophonist Tim O'Dell - "Dreams of Pangaea," recorded in Clapp Recital Hall at the University of Iowa.Johnson County Landmark (JCL) is a band consisting of students and jazz faculty based at the University of Iowa, and directed by trombonist-bandleader-professor John Rapson.
O'Dell's signature aesthetics coax the tradition of contemporary jazz big band out of the box with this collection of 10 evocative tracks. At times recalling the sounds of Maria Schneider, or the Miles Davis/Gil Evans era, O'Dell's compositions and arrangements explore atmospheric tones, Latin pulses, emotional ballads, groove-based moods and free-wheeling solos.
