Saturday, March 3rd, 2012 Marshall Vente – with Joanie Pallatto “The performances are dazzling” Southport Records Presents an Ongoing Series at Katerina’s: Saturday, March 3rd, 2012 6:30 – 9:00 PM $5 COVER # # # Marshall Vente – pianist / composer / arranger Vente, in everyday life, plays equal roles as Pianist, Bandleader, Composer, Arranger, Radio Host and Contractor. A diverse taste in music aids his survival in the music business. A life in jazz has taken him from touring Europe as a teenager, ‘68; a National Endowment for Arts jazz apprentice with Gil Evans and David Matthews, ’82 – ‘87; NEA & IAC Composer grants; collaborations and CDs with Eldee Young, Billy Harper, Neville York; and as impresario of his annual Jazz Tropicale Cruise aboard the tall ship Windy in mid-July since 1995. His love of Brazilian music brought him to the airwaves as radio host of Jazz Tropicale heard every Sunday on 90.9fm WDCB since 1993 – “It’s a jazz show with a few palm trees!” Vente is currently leading and playing gigs nearly every day! Joanie Pallatto – vocalist / composer Pallatto's discography includes recordings with Bradley Parker-Sparrow, Marshall Vente, Willie Pickens, Von Freeman, Bob Dorough, Fareed Haque, King Fleming, Tatsu Aoki, Bobby Lewis, Famoudou Don Moye and many more. Co-owner and partner with pianist/composer and husband, Bradley Parker-Sparrow at Sparrow Sound Design Recording Studio and Southport Records, Joanie's engineering expertise is displayed in the areas of recording, mixing and mastering, along with CD production, producing, arranging and composing. # # # Southport Records presents an ongoing series of events at Katerina’s on the first Saturday of every month! Label partners Bradley Parker-Sparrow, piano and Joanie Pallatto, voice will open each set with their original duets and improvisations. Southport Records will present a mix of artists from the label roster, featuring jazz, avant garde, classical, world and new music. The co-host of this event, Katerina’s, has evolved into a unique listening experience and environment, with fine programming, including jazz, world, and pop forms. As always, Katerina’s serves great cocktails and fine food! Katerina’s – an eclectic club with its soul in the arts. # # # Southport Records celebrates the documentation of recording Chicago artists for the past thirty-five years!
